Project Overview
Gallup Park serves as the centerpiece of outdoor recreation for residents of Nellie Gail Ranch in Orange County, CA. The HOA commissioned a new multi-age commercial playground to create a vibrant gathering space for families. The upgraded playground complements the park’s open lawn, walking paths, and event space, which hosts the community’s annual summer concert series and other neighborhood events.
Designed to support children ages 2 through 12, the playground blends active play, imaginative experiences, and inclusive design. The finished project reflects the equestrian heritage of Nellie Gail Ranch while delivering a modern, durable play environment built for daily use.
Design Goals
The Gallup Park playground project was developed to:
• Provide distinct play opportunities for toddlers and school-age children
• Incorporate thematic elements that align with the community’s horse-country character
• Meet safety and accessibility standards for a neighborhood HOA park
• Deliver a high-quality commercial playground solution on a defined construction schedule
The result is a thoughtfully planned, destination-style playground that encourages repeat visits and extended play.
Play Structure Features and Equipment Highlights
Primary Playground for Ages 5–12
The central feature of the park is the PS5-73341 playground structure, designed specifically for children ages 5 to 12. This commercial playground system promotes climbing, sliding, social interaction, and active exploration.
With multiple decks, slides, climbers, and interactive components, the structure supports gross motor development, coordination, and cooperative play. Its layout encourages continuous movement and varied skill challenges, making it a focal point for older children within the park.
Early Childhood Playground for Ages 2–5
Younger children have a dedicated play zone anchored by the PS3-73351 playground system for ages 2 to 5. This structure includes lower deck heights, age-appropriate slides, and activity panels that encourage exploration.
By separating play areas by age group, the design ensures toddlers can build confidence and motor skills in a developmentally appropriate environment while older children enjoy more advanced challenges nearby.
Freestanding Play Elements
Gallup Park also features a variety of standalone playground components that expand play value across the site:
-
Stagecoach dramatic play vehicle, reinforcing the ranch and equestrian identity of the community while encouraging imaginative role-play
-
Two horse spring riders that help children develop balance and core strength through motion-based play
-
A 75-foot playground zip line that delivers high-energy, linear motion play and adds a destination-level attraction within the neighborhood park
-
A shaded swing set with a See Me Swing seat, allowing children to swing and play alongside their caregivers
-
An Ascend Top Spinner, a spinning playground net that supports vestibular development and group interaction
-
Natural play elements made from reinforced concrete, including a commercial-grade log tunnel, half-log balance beam, and tree stepping slices. These features provide balance challenges and imaginative opportunities while offering long-term durability and low maintenance.
Community Impact
Since its completion, the Gallup Park playground has become a daily gathering place for families within the Nellie Gail Ranch community. The playground supports casual afternoon play, birthday celebrations, and seasonal events, including the annual summer concert series held in the adjacent park space.
By combining age-specific play structures, dynamic motion activities, and natural-inspired features, the project delivers a well-rounded recreational experience that serves the entire neighborhood.
Gallup Park now functions as:
-
A central social hub for families
-
A multi-age playground destination within Orange County
-
A community-focused event backdrop
-
A reflection of Nellie Gail Ranch’s unique character and lifestyle
The Gallup Park playground project for the Nellie Gail Ranch Owners Association demonstrates how thoughtful playground design can elevate a neighborhood amenity into a true community destination. With separate areas for ages 2–5 and 5–12, a zip line attraction, shaded swings, dramatic play elements, and reinforced concrete natural features, the space offers engaging, durable, and developmentally appropriate play for years to come.
