Henry Doorly Zoo
With the help of Sterling West, our certified partner, Superior Playgrounds created a lighthouse themed playground structure for Henry Doorly Zoo located in the city of Omaha. This public zoo takes pride in offering several exhibits, education programs, camps, and events while also providing diverse food options. Since this popular and growing facility is attracting more and more visitors, we dedicated much thought and effort into giving this zoo a playground that boosts creativity and a relaxing space for guests to unwind and socialize. This custom design is the centerpiece structure based in the children’s play area that adds character, value, and excitement to the space. After a long day of exploring at this city attraction, children have the option to interact and enjoy themselves on the playground. This structure encourages imaginative play through its Themed Panel Climber, Themed Tic-Tac-Toe Panel, and Themed Window Panel that includes a bench for resting and socializing. Guests will enjoy making their way down the Wave Chute Slide and the Spiral Tube Slide for a thrilling way to exit the playground. A themed playground was chosen for this project to inspire children and encourage them to explore their creativity and imagination. Henry Doorly Zoo’s Glacier Bay Landing, a public restaurant area, found its inspiration from Alaskan coastal towns which is why a lighthouse design was selected for the playground. This large structure promotes social play by having a holding capacity of up to 66 children and by being ADA accessible. Children between the ages of 5 to 12 can access and take advantage of all the climbing events, activity panels, and slides that this structure offers. Parents and guardians have the option to step aside and relax under multiple square umbrellas that are located right beside the children’s play space while maintaining full vision of the playground.
