Wink Elementary, located in Wink, Texas, serves approximately 250 students from Pre-K through 6th grade. We initially created a small playground space that served children ages 2-5 years. Years later, the school returned to us to create a playground space for the upper elementary school students ages 5-12 years. When the school returned to us for a second playground build, it was a clear sign they valued our design, safety, and durability standards — making them a repeat customer. Today, Wink Elementary offers its students a cohesive, multi-zone recreation area that supports active play, inclusive experiences, outdoor learning, and social gathering for children across grade levels.
The first project focused on building an early-childhood play environment tailored specifically to the developmental needs of children ages 2–5. Designed using the school’s logo and colors, this custom playground gave Wink Elementary a signature space that immediately stood out on campus.
Key Features of the Phase 1 Playground:
Custom-designed play structure themed with school branding, colors, and personality
Two-bay swing set with both inclusive swing seats and belt seats to accommodate all children
Inclusive merry-go-round, offering motion play accessible to a wider range of abilities
Outdoor musical instrument area featuring seven different instruments, encouraging creativity, sensory exploration, and collaborative play. Musical instruments included our Contrabass Chimes, Flower, Butterfly, Mushroom, Piano, Bongos, and Guitar.
Retro Rocker, perfect for younger children looking for a fun and approachable motion element
Two playground spinners
This first installation became a beloved hub for the school’s youngest students, setting the stage for future campus enhancements.
After experiencing exceptional results with their early-childhood space, Wink Elementary partnered with us again to design and build a second, much larger playground. The goal was to create a multi-purpose outdoor recreation environment that would offer older elementary students more challenge, movement, shade, and social space.
Key Features of the Phase 2 Expansion:
A large covered area outfitted with Regal Tables
Shade provided by our Sand Dollar Sail Shade
Ideal for outdoor lunches, classes, group activities, or rest between play
A high-energy, activity-packed structure designed to keep kids moving
Thoughtfully shaded to ensure safe, comfortable play on hot Texas afternoons
Mosura Net Climber, a large web-based climber that encourages strength, balance, coordination, and open-ended exploration
Bubble Storm Climber, a dynamic freestanding climber that adds another level of physical challenge
Inclusive Whirl merry-go-round for accessible spinning play
Shaded swings so kids can enjoy a classic favorite comfortably year-round
A multi-use volleyball/basketball court (provided by others)
A turf sports field (provided by others)
Together, these elements complete a holistic recreation area that supports both structured sports and free play.
Across both projects, Wink Elementary now offers students a diverse, safe, and developmentally balanced outdoor environment. The combined spaces include everything from sensory-rich musical play to advanced climbing challenges, from shaded rest zones to courts and fields used for PE and recess.
Benefits to the School Community:
Age-appropriate play areas for children 2–12
Greater accessibility and inclusive equipment
UV-protected, comfortable spaces that allow for year-round use
Expanded opportunities for physical activity, imaginative play, and social development
Durable, low-maintenance structures designed for long-term performance
Most importantly, Wink Elementary’s decision to return to Superior Playgrounds for a second installation demonstrates confidence in our design expertise, product quality, and commitment to creating meaningful outdoor experiences for students.
