Project Overview

Wayne Frady Park in Lewisville, TX, was designed as a welcoming, multi-generational play destination that supports active play, inclusive experiences, and comfortable gathering spaces for families. The park balances age-appropriate playground design with thoughtful amenities that allow caregivers to stay engaged and connected while children play.

Playground Design

The playground features two distinct play structures to support different age groups and developmental stages. One structure is a large, shaded tower playground designed for children ages 5–12. This area offers elevated play, climbing elements, and active challenges that encourage physical movement, imagination, and social interaction.

A second, smaller play structure was designed specifically for children ages 2–5. Scaled appropriately for younger users, this area allows toddlers and preschoolers to explore independently in a safe and approachable environment. Both play areas are surfaced with poured-in-place rubber surfacing to improve accessibility, safety, and comfort for users of all abilities.

  • Large Tower Playground (Ages 5-12):
A dynamic, multi-level play structure with slides, climbing elements, and activity panels that encourage active, imaginative play for older children.
  • Smaller Play Structure (Ages 2-5):
A scaled-down play environment designed specifically for younger children to explore safely and independently.

Inclusive & Multi-Generational Play Features

Wayne Frady Park places a strong emphasis on inclusive and companion play. The playground includes a three-bay arch swing frame featuring a mix of standard swing seats, inclusive swing seats, and a See Me Swing. The See Me Swing allows caregivers to swing alongside their child, creating shared play experiences and supporting children who benefit from additional assistance. These swing options help ensure children of varying abilities can participate together in play.

Sensory and Social Elements

To expand the play experience beyond traditional playground equipment, the park includes butterfly-themed outdoor musical instruments. These elements encourage sensory exploration, creativity, and cooperative play. Benches are strategically placed throughout the play area to provide caregivers with comfortable seating and clear sightlines to supervise children at play.

Comfort and Safety Features

Shade structures are incorporated into the playground design to help protect children and caregivers from sun exposure and extend playtime throughout the day. Concrete walkways connect the play areas and surrounding amenities, creating smooth, accessible paths throughout the site. Trash receptacles and seating further enhance usability and park cleanliness.

Project Impact

The Wayne Frady Park project created a cohesive outdoor environment that supports children, caregivers, and the broader community. The design prioritizes inclusive play, age-appropriate challenges, safety, and comfort, resulting in a park that encourages connection, movement, and shared experiences for all who visit.
