Frequently Asked Questions about Planning a Commercial Playground Environment

Who is Superior Playgrounds? Where are you located?

Superior Playgrounds is a line of commercial playgrounds designed, manufactured, and sold by Superior Recreational Products, a PlayCore company. We have a long history of expertise designing and manufacturing commercial-grade playgrounds for parks, schools, housing communities, churches, and more. Our products include a full line of steel and recycled playground equipment, freestanding equipment such as climbers and slides, playground components such as steel decks and playground panels, and safety surfacing options.

Our playground equipment is designed and manufactured in our 300,000+ square feet of manufacturing space located in Carrollton, Ga. and Fort Payne, Ala. Superior's administrative offices are located in Carrollton, Ga., and our large network of sales partners are strategically located across the nation.

What are commercial playgrounds made out of? Are the materials environmentally friendly?

Proudly made in the USA, we use only quality playground materials on our steel and recycled playground equipment. For a complete listing of our playground materials, see this page.

Since most of our products are steel or metal, many of our materials include 90-100% post-consumer materials. After many years of use on a playground, they are able to be recycled and reused for a new purpose. Many of our other product materials are made up of 20% or more post-consumer materials as well.

What kind of warranty do you offer?

We are happy to say that we offer a lifetime warranty on all steel and recycled posts, hardware, and post caps. We offer a 15-year limited warranty on items such as rotomolded plastics, activity panels, and more. For a more detailed breakdown of our warranty, reference our playgrounds warranty breakdown.

Every order includes a copy of our comprehensive warranty. For more information, please consult with your local sales representative.

What safety standards do you comply with?

All products meet or exceed the standards set forth by IPEMA (International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association), ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials), U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, United States Access Board, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, PCI 4000, as well as our own strict in-house safety standards.

For your convenience, we offer a complimentary safety checklist to make sure your playground area stays safe for children.

How much does a playground cost? Do you offer financing, discounts, grants, or government pricing?

Commercial playground prices depend on elements such as the size of the structure, safety surfacing, and more. Superior can design a playground for almost any budget. A good rule to go by is to determine the maximum number of children who you expect to be using the playground at one time and budget $1,000 per child. Ex: If you have a playground that needs to accommodate 20 children, it may cost around $20,000.

To make purchasing your playground equipment easier, we offer many financing and co-op purchasing options, help you acquire grants with our annual grant guide, as well as offer seasonal discounts in the winter, spring, summer, and fall. For government institutions, we offer competitive pricing through our many government contracts we are part of.

A complete list of purchasing options can be found here.

What do I need to consider when planning my commercial playground project?

There are a few main things that need to considered when planning a new or updated commercial playground project: the age range of the children that will be using the equipment, the size of the playground area, the number of children that need to use the equipment at once, and the budget that is available for the playground.

More information and considerations can be found on our design process page, in our budget breakdown, and on our articles page.

How do I get my playground project started?

To get started, simply contact us by filling out a form or calling us at 800.327.8774. We will get you in contact with your local sales representative who will make arrangements to discuss your project and prepare a custom design quote for your commercial playground project.

How long will it take for my playground equipment to arrive?

It depends on the item and the time of year. During fall and winter, lead times generally range from 2-4 weeks. During the spring and summer, we usually experience a higher volume of orders which extends our lead times. For an accurate lead time, contact your local representative or call us at 800.327.8774.

How long does it take to install a playground? Do you offer installation?

Typical playground installations take approximately one week, but larger playground environments may understandably take longer to install.

Yes, we do work with certified installers across the nation. Consult with your local sales representative for more information.

It is always recommended to have a professional playground installer complete the installation of your playground equipment to ensure that it is installed according to manufacturer specifications and safety standards set forth by CPSI and IPEMA guidelines.

What if my equipment arrives damaged?

If you wish to return any item, you must first contact your local sales representative or our Customer Care team at 800.327.8774 to request a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) form to begin the return process.

A copy of our return policy can be found here.

Do you inspect my installation site before I buy?

For many playground projects, one of our local sales representatives may evaluate your site prior to providing you a quote. Contact your local sales representative for more information.

How do I get a copy of your catalog? Do you have an online catalog?

You can request a printed catalog or view the digital version online.

Are your playgrounds designed for different age groups?

Yes. We can design a playground area fit for any age group that your site requires. The most common age groups are 6-23 months, 2-5 years, 2-12 years, and 5-12 years.

What does inclusive playground and accessible playground mean?

Inclusive play areas are playgrounds where any person with any ability can participate, or "all encompassing." This means whether the playground activity is on the ground or a deck, everyone will be able to access it.

Accessible play means it's "easy to approach, reach, or use." This usually includes playground activities located at ground level.

Do I need to consider playground surfacing, or can I install commercial playground equipment over grass or dirt?

In most situations, you are not able to install commercial playground equipment over grass and/or dirt. The height of the highest deck (maximum fall height) usually drives what kind of surfacing is recommended for your site. For help deciding what kind of surfacing you should select, reference our surfacing guide.

Can you update my existing playground?

Yes. We offer commercial playground components like slides, playground panels, roofs, decks, and more which help update your existing playground without the new playground price tag. Request a quote or contact your local sales rep for more information today.

Do you offer custom designed playgrounds or only standard designs?

Both. We offer standard pre-designed and pre-engineered playground structures to aid in shorter lead times. If your site requires a custom design like a themed playground, one that needs to fit within an irregularly shaped space, one that accommodates children with physical disabilities, or any other circumstance we gladly accept any challenge to provide play for the children in your community.

If you have any other questions, we are happy to assist you with your playground planning questions.
